Right Dress for Body Shape
Hi brides-to-be,
This bride came to me for her first consultation. She is under 5' tall and a size 26 apple.
When choosing gowns for her to try on, I leaned towards the minimalistic as we wouldn't want to swamp her in too much fabric or detail. I encouraged her to try on the Essense of Australia D3586 but she wasn't comfortable with her arms being exposed. To combat this, I suggested sleeves in silk organza, lace, or a beautiful pearled tulle I had in stock. She loved the scattered pearl tulle and we chose a design to be made as sleeves.
On the encouragement of her bridal party, the bride also went elsewhere to see what was available. During one of these consultations, the bride was almost convinced to buy a gown one of her bridesmaids felt was more flattering. The bride wasn't entirely convinced and called to see if she could make a second appointment with just her mother and a close friend.
During the consultation, I suggested we take a photo of her in my gown so that she could compare it side-by-side with the other gown she liked. When we compared the photos there was no turning back -- it was clear that the skirt was too gathered in the alternative dress, and the shade of ivory less flattering to her skin tone.
She said, "Connie, I feel you know what you're doing and what's right for my size." Sometimes brides bring too many people and there's so many opinions, it makes choosing your dress even more difficult. If you bring just a few guests -- closest friends or family that you trust -- the rest can be surprised on the day.
I'm proud of my styling because I think she looks beautiful in my choice!
Connie xx
