Real Bride Courtney: Finding the Dress That Felt Just Right

There is something very special about seeing one of our brides’ wedding photos arrive in our inbox, especially when you remember the journey that led to her dress.

Courtney came to Accapella Bridal ready to explore. At her first appointment, we tried a variety of gowns and silhouettes so she could work out what she really loved.

After so many years dressing brides, I’m very quick at getting gowns on and off, which means we can often try quite a few styles during an appointment without it ever feeling rushed. For Courtney, that gave her the chance to compare different looks, narrow things down and gradually discover what felt most like her.

And that is something I always want brides to know — you do not have to walk into your first appointment already knowing exactly what your wedding dress should look like.

Sometimes the whole point of the appointment is finding that out.

Courtney eventually chose a beautiful ivory Mikado A-line gown that may look simple at first glance, but is full of clever couture details.

The bodice has a sharp V sweetheart neckline with a nude illusion insert through the centre, while asymmetric pleating sweeps across one side of the bodice. A self-fabric belt defines the waist and finishes with a beautiful half bow to the side, giving the gown that little bit of drama without taking away from its clean, modern look.

The skirt is cut with plenty of movement and fullness, with a side split, hidden pockets and a beautiful statement train.

It was such a good choice for Courtney. The structure of the Mikado gave the gown presence, but it still looked effortless on her.

And seeing it in her wedding photographs, moving through the day rather than standing on a boutique pedestal, makes it even better. From the beautiful shape of the gown as she walks to that incredible train behind her, it suited the whole feeling of the day perfectly.
