Seamstress vs Sales Assistant
Hi all, I had a bride that bought her dress elsewhere on sale . This bride liked the dress colour ,but it was too big and didn't like the flowers that were sewn to the dress. When brides come to me with alterations I always like to say what I think would suit their body shape and what I can do to make the dress flatter their body shape.
Alterations done to the dress 1. I felt it was heavy so I removed all netting underneath. 2.Train shorten suit her wedding venue 3.run in side seams to hip level. 4.Remove flowers 5.l suggested for my bride to be fitted with a bra as the dress was big up the top and with the particular neckline it would end up being a much more costly alteration with the piping trim on neckline 6. Added lace sleeves and lace appliqué.
When I was styling this bride, I could hear her mum and mother in law saying she should have come hear "she knows what she's talking about" . The lady were we bought the dress didn't pick up all these points. I said to the two mums it's not the sales assistants fault don't forget I'm a seamstress and I have been doing this for a long time ,there's a big difference I know whether the dress can be altered to suit the bride or not. With the end result my bride being happy with what had been done. I do feel that with alterations costs being so expensive and also the cost of the lace it didn't work out to be a dress that was a great buy. Brides to be if you are buying a dress on sale ask to speak to a seamstress on alterations before you purchase your dream wedding dress.
Unfortunately I wasn't opened long enough for her to have known about me. This Sincerity Bridal Dress is what I would have chosen for her. It comes in a champagne colour and with the neckline being slightly sweetheart would have been a great option for her.
