Wedding Alterations This Week: A Dream Dress for a Glowing Bride

Back in October, my bride said yes to her dream dress — the stunning Essense of Australia D3787, ordered in a size 16. At the time, she wasn’t pregnant. Just a few weeks later, life surprised her — she found out she was expecting!

Understandably, she panicked a little and started searching online for alternatives, worried her original dress wouldn't work. But she emailed me earlier this year to say: "If there’s any way to make it work, this is still the dress I want." She’d be 28 weeks pregnant on her wedding day.

We agreed she’d come in for a fitting at 20 weeks. At that stage, the dress zipped up — but it was snug with no extra room. I advised her to come back two weeks before the wedding so I could evaluate how best to proceed.

When she returned, the dress no longer fit as it did before — but I had a plan.

I carefully cut the front bodice into a V shape at the center front, stopping just above the waistline to create an empire-style effect, accommodating her growing baby bump. I also unpicked the side seams — which were now butting together — and reinforced them by placing boning on top for added structure and support.

The final result? A perfectly altered dress that looked beautiful and felt comfortable for her special day.

When she picked it up, she was thrilled. I even left a little room in case of a last-minute growth spurt before her wedding.

Life throws unexpected turns — and I’m so glad I could help this beautiful bride walk down the aisle in the dress she truly loved.
