The Dress That Got Away (And Why It Happens More Than You Hope)
The Dress That Got Away (And Why It Happens More Than You Hope)
I’ll be honest—this doesn’t happen often.
But over the 14 years at Accapella Bridal, it has happened a handful of times… and it happened again just the other day.
A bride came in looking for a second wedding dress—something fun for her photo shoot and later in the evening. She tried on a beautiful Martina Liana mini dress, complete with an overskirt and sleeves.
It was one of those unique wedding dresses—a little different, a little special—and she absolutely loved it.
We gently let her know that we had a fully booked day ahead, and if she loved it, it might be worth making a decision while she had the chance.
The bride decided she wanted to think about it.
Later, she emailed to say she was “95% sure”… but just needed a little more time.
And that’s where things can change very quickly.
That same afternoon, another bride came in, tried on the very same dress—and fell completely in love with it. She said yes on the spot.
It was a stunning one-off wedding dress—and she walked away over the moon.
Unfortunately, that meant we had to let the first bride know the dress had sold.
And she was devastated.
Why Brides Miss Out on Their Dream Wedding Dress
Bridal shopping today looks very different to what it used to be.
Brides are doing more research, comparing more options, and wanting to feel completely confident before making a decision—which is completely understandable.
But one of the biggest things many brides don’t realise is this:
Most bridal boutique sample dresses are one-of-a-kind.
Especially when it comes to:
- Sample sale wedding dresses
- Discontinued designer gowns
- Second wedding dresses and mini bridal looks
- Custom-styled gowns with overskirts or sleeves
Once they’re sold, they’re gone.
We can’t reorder them.
Wedding Dress Regret: When Waiting Costs You “The One”
One of the most common things we see in a bridal boutique is what we call wedding dress hesitation.
A bride finds a dress she truly loves… but waits.
And sometimes, that’s when wedding dress regret happens—because someone else says yes before she does.
After more than 35 years working as a bridal seamstress and stylist, one thing is always true:
When a bride feels amazing in a dress, it shows instantly.
- Her posture changes
- Her face lights up
- She doesn’t want to take it off
That feeling is hard to recreate.
When Should You Say Yes to the Dress?
If you’re wondering when to buy your wedding dress, here’s our honest advice:
If you love the dress, feel confident in it, and can truly picture yourself walking down the aisle in it—trust that feeling.
Especially if:
- It’s a sample gown
- It’s on sale
- It’s a discontinued style
- Or it’s something unique you haven’t seen anywhere else
Because waiting can sometimes mean missing out.
