Designing a Dream Dress from Three Favourites
Designing a Dream Dress from Three Favourites
Every now and then, a bride walks in and falls in love with more than just one gown – and this is where the magic of custom design begins.
Recently, I had a bride who adored three different dresses, each for a completely different reason:
✨ Dress 1 – Pollardi “Shiver”
She loved:
The luxurious mikado fabric
The corset-style boning that shaped her waist beautifully
The delicate eyelash lace trim that finished the neckline perfectly
The soft off-shoulder straps and how the gown made her curvy figure feel elegant and empowered
✨ Dress 2 – Essense of Australia D4093
She instantly fell for:
The thigh-high split in the skirt
The side pleating, which added movement and softness
✨ Dress 3 – Essense of Australia D3705
From this gown, she loved:
The classic buttons down the centre back – such a timeless detail
Bringing It All Together
Instead of choosing just one, I suggested we create a gown that combined all of her favourite elements.
I sketched a new design, merging:
The structure and fabric of Pollardi Shiver
The split and side pleats from D4093
And the button-back detail from D3705
With my background in dressmaking and pattern making, I was able to translate her vision clearly and accurately. I sent the sketches to Pollardi Fashion Group, who are now in the process of creating her custom gown.
Why Custom Works
Designing this way allows brides to:
Feel completely confident in every detail
Blend modern trends with personal touches
Avoid compromising on features they love
And for me as a seamstress, understanding the technical side of pattern-making makes the process smoother – from communicating with designers to ensuring the final fit is perfect.
