Bridal alterations to elongate your height
This bride fell instantly in love with a mermaid Justin Alexander dress(8758); however, she was very petite and the skirt flared too low on her figure for her height. She really loved the lace, beaded cap sleeves, the low back and the deep neckline and it was such a pity that the flare was not going to do her figure justice. To give her the dress of her dreams, I suggested that I change the skirt entirely to a new shape that would be more flattering.
And then the alterations began! I removed the tulle godets, which are triangle shaped inserts that give the flare its shape. I further decreased the flare
by straightening the satin underneath the lace, removing wedges of fabric from the sides and front and back seams. I shortened the satin train to a
length more suitable to the bride’s height, having left a centre-back godet to give the skirt movement. I also made a sash bow out of leftover made-to-measure
silk, which highlighted the bride’s waist.
Overall, this dress went through some significant (although relatively simple) alterations, and you can see for yourself what a huge difference it has
made to the dress. It’s another ‘happily ever after’ for an almost perfect off-the-rack dress.
